West Point Skiing

Recreational skiing at West Point has been a cherished tradition for over 60 years. In 1936, skiing was first attempted at USMA on a primitive ski slide at Delafield Pond.  Three years later, the first trail was cut through the woods at Silver Deposit Hill, later named Victor Constant Ski Slope for Army Captain Victor Constant, who was instrumental in developing skiing at West Point. During the 1940’s, several ski runs and the first rope tow were added, a rustic log cabin with a warming stove was built, and the ski club and ski patrol were formed.  The ski slope operates annually from 26 December - 15 March, weather.

Life & Trails

The ski area is serviced by a triple chairlift with an 1,800 person/hour capacity and a

500’ vertical drop. The chairlift services all intermediate trails - Hollman Run, East Run, and the Rodney H. Smith Trail. The Bunny Slope is serviced by a rope tow with a 150’ vertical drop. Snowmaking and grooming techniques, plus a designated “Terrain Park” on Sitzmark, offer excellent terrain for all levels of skiers and snowboarders.
